Unity Health Toronto’s Virtual Memorial
Unity Health Toronto has created this Virtual Memorial to support the loved ones, families and friends of those who have died at our three sites, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital and Providence Healthcare. This memorial is designed to offer comfort and support for those suffering a loss. As part of wraparound care, the video includes contact information for anyone who watches the video and would like references for additional local support.
We share this memorial with hope that it helps those grieving with their healing journey.

Spiritual care practitioners are health professionals working at the intersection of health and spirituality. We are certified professionals who use evidence, knowledge and training in spirituality and therapeutic practices to provide holistic care that improves patient experience, communication and clinical outcomes.
Trust, safety and sincerity are at the heart of spiritual care practice. Spiritual care practitioners aim to listen without judgment and ensure your spiritual needs, concerns and wishes are met in ways that work for you.
Patients and Residents
We are a source of comfort and connection for patients and residents and help to ensure their spiritual needs are at the heart of their care – regardless of their religious beliefs.
Families
We help families navigate the health care challenges, changes and crisis for loved ones by providing space for listening, reflection and by offering spiritual and/or pastoral support.
Unity Health Professionals and Staff
We also care for Unity Health professionals and other staff, providing timely spiritual care to those with whom we serve.
Community members
We seek to serve all members of the communities where we operate, ensuring their cultural, spiritual and religious traditions are welcomed, honoured, respected and practiced appropriately while receiving care or support in our facilities.
Spiritual Care creates space to consider questions, ideas and needs that are important to you, your health and your life – with or without religion.
Spiritual care practitioners can help you:
- Find meaning in times of illness, crisis and loss
- Identify inner resources for coping
- With end-of-life and grief support
- Through challenging decision-making processes
- Connect with your cultural, spiritual and/or religious leaders
- By facilitating ceremonies, rites of passage and cultural and/or religious rituals, including meditation and prayer
We believe that caring for a person’s spiritual needs requires personal connection, listening and learning about their spiritual concerns, and their desire for care and support. We listen deeply to people, without judgment, because a person’s spirituality, stories, beliefs, values and concerns are key to their healthcare.
We are open-minded and have a natural curiosity and interest in the thoughts, feelings and lives of those we serve, as well as the many diverse expressions of spirituality that people share.
By working together we ensure patients, residents and their loved ones have the spiritual support and care they need to help them through a lonely day in the hospital, process a difficult diagnosis, find solace at the end of life or to simply share a moment of hope and celebration.
As a health network fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Spiritual Care offers Clinical Psycho-Spiritual Education (CPE) under the auspices of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC). For more information, please contact spiritualcare@unityhealth.to.
