Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work with patients who have swallowing and communication disorders. They see patients in the hospital and also in our swallowing and voice clinic.
Inpatient Services
A team of speech-language pathologists provides both clinical and instrumental evaluations and management of oropharygneal swallowing disorders, caused by things such as stroke or trauma, or from other causes such as tracheostomy or when taken off a breathing tube.
Outpatient Services
The Voice Clinic provides state-of-the-art voice care, offering services such as stroboscopy, digital voice analysis and therapeutic treatment. The Swallowing Clinic (Oropharyngeal Dysphagia Clinic) runs one day a week and offers swallowing studies to St. Michael’s patients.
Education and Research
Our Speech-Language Pathology service is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. We actively engage in staff and student teaching, quality improvement, continuing education and research projects.
