Gynecology at St. Joseph's Health Centre
As the experts in women’s and reproductive health, we are trained to manage an extensive range of conditions from adolescence through and beyond menopause. We treat patients both medically and surgically and offer many procedures through a minimally invasive approach. Our team of gynecologists have additional expertise in the areas of adolescent gynecology, endometriosis, minimally invasive surgery, colposcopy and vulvar disease.
Many of the gynecologists at St. Joseph’s Health Centre offer minimally invasive surgical management of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, pre-cancer and cancers of the uterus and more. This approach often uses small key-hole incisions to perform both simple and complex gynecologic operations and is usually associated with a shorter stay in hospital and a quicker recovery time for our patients. While this approach is not always possible, our aim is always to provide high quality, evidence-based and patient-centred gynecologic care.
In consultation with their physician, patients can determine whether this option is appropriate for their individual needs.
Clinics & Services
Colposcopy is an important cancer prevention service and diagnostic procedure that allows for close examination of the cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease. It is usually required after an abnormal screening (Pap) test or other observed abnormalities. Staffed by a team of gynecologists and nurses, the colposcopy clinic is there to educate patients regarding abnormal pap tests, investigate these abnormalities and treat cervical dysplasia.

View Colposcopy ClinicThe Vulva Clinic is staffed by a team of gynecologists and nurses who educate patients about conditions such as lichen sclerosus, lichen planus, precancerous lesions and other dermatologic conditions affecting the vulva. During your appointment, your provider may need to take a vulvar biopsy, which involves removing a small piece of tissue from the vulva to be examined by a lab. They may also complete testing to identify infections of the female genital tract.

We offer a broad range of expertise to support women with complex conditions, including endometriosis and uterine fibroids. Our gynecologists specialize in minimally invasive surgery for some conditions, which can reduce the length of a patient’s hospital stay and recovery time. St. Michael’s also offers the only two-year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecological surgery in Canada.
