Who we are

We offer world-class specialty programs for multiple sclerosis, trauma & critical care and brain & heart. We attract the best and brightest clinicians, staff and learners who work to treat and care for some of the most complex medical cases while also creating patient-centred care pathways that are holistic, innovative and evidence-based.

We are a global leader in applied Artificial Intelligence, harnessing the power of data and AI to reimagine how we deliver care and to transform the health care system.

We are one of only two health centres in Canada verified as a Level 1 Trauma Centre by the American College of Surgeons. This means that trauma patients at St. Michael’s, who come from across Ontario either by ground or air transport, receive high quality care from the time they arrive in the Emergency Department right through to rehabilitation.

We rank among the top research hospitals in Canada and are advancing the understanding of diseases, treatments, clinical care and community interventions to shape the future of healthcare. We are home to two world-class research institutes: The Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science.

We offer compassionate, quality care to all in need – a tradition instilled by our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto more than 100 years ago. We affirm the inherent dignity, worth and equality of every human being in our care, education and research.

Keeping Our Site Clean

St. Michael’s is located in the heart of downtown Toronto, just steps from some of the city’s most vibrant residential and commercial streets. Whether you’re visiting the site to work, learn, receive care or visit a loved one, it’s important that we treat the site and community with kindness and respect. One way to do this is by keeping the neighbourhood clean. Please be mindful of your garbage and dispose of the following items properly:

  • Cigarette butts go in cigarette butt disposals on City of Toronto garbage cans
  • Masks and gloves go in garbage bins
  • Pop cans go in recycling bins
  • Organic waste should be placed in compost bins

Thank you for helping us keep Unity Health and our surrounding neighbourhoods clean. To learn more about how to dispose of various materials, please use the Waste Wizard on the City of Toronto website.
