Who we are
We are a team of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Personal Support Workers who are dispatched to different units every day to provide excellent, compassionate patient care and help meet staffing needs across the hospital. Interprofessional Resource Team clinical staff members are equipped with the knowledge, skills and judgment to practice effectively in various patient care settings. Every day on the Interprofessional Resource Team is different and we serve the needs of our organization, our patients and our colleagues.

Interprofessional Resource Team members work across all three hospital sites at Unity Health Toronto. Members of our Interprofessional Resource Teams have the opportunity to receive training and work on various units, including:
- Medicine
- Surgery
- Emergency Department

- And other, site-specific departments

Frequently asked questions
Full-time staff work two days, followed by two nights, followed by five days off. At Providence, the Interprofessional Resource Team does eight-hour shift rotations.
Unity Health Toronto is a proud participant of the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program. The Ministry of Health Nursing Graduate Guarantee Initiative at Unity Health provides new graduates and internationally educated nurses with opportunities for:
- Extensive orientation
- Preceptorship by an experienced nurse with clinical expertise in a chosen area
- Acquiring new clinical knowledge and skills
- Learning how to prioritize patient care needs and manage a workload
The goal of this initiative is to promote the transfer of knowledge to new graduates and internationally educated nurses within an accountability framework, focusing on professional growth and autonomy leading to active participation as a member of the clinical team. In an effort to optimize resources and the delivery of care, the St. Michael’s Interprofessional Resource Team (IRT) was established to build system capacity to meet staffing needs across the hospital. In collaboration with leaders and teams, IRT nurses and clinical assistants at St. Michael’s are experts in providing effective patient care in various specialized areas including Stroke/Neurology, Respirology, Cardiology/Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, Nephrology/Urology/Transplant, Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, Trauma/Neurosurgery, General Internal Medicine, General Surgery/Gastroenterology/Plastics, Gynecology/Obstetrics, Mental Health, Emergency, Critical Care, Post-Anesthesia Care, and other areas.
