Dr. Ori Rotstein has been appointed the new VP of Research and Innovation of Unity Health Toronto, effective May 1. Dr. Rotstein is a surgeon-scientist-administrator who has been serving as surgeon-in-chief at St. Michael’s Hospital since 2004 and director of the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science since 2005. He is also a professor and associate chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.

“We’re fortunate to have found an excellent leader and outstanding clinician-scientist as well as someone who has intimate knowledge of our research community and our patient population,” says Dr. Tim Rutledge, president and CEO, Unity Health Toronto. “I’m excited to welcome him to our executive team.”

During his time at St. Michael’s Hospital, Dr. Rotstein has made numerous and significant contributions to the hospital as well as to the broader health-care sector. He has almost 350 publications; given more than 300 presentations around the world; been awarded sizable grants from various funding agencies, including the CIHR, CFI and NIH; and he is the recipient of many honours and awards, including the inaugural Keenan Chair in Research Leadership.
