Every month, researchers across Unity Health Toronto celebrate important honours, achievements and awards. Congratulations to our researchers who have been recognized this month!

Nine projects from Unity Health Toronto have been funded for more than $5-million by the Spring 2021 CIHR Project Grant competition. The leads of the nine funded projects are:

  • Dr. Tom Schweizer, interim director of the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science
  • Dr. Kelsie Thu, scientist at the Keenan Research Centre
  • Dr. Tony Antoniou, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
  • Dr. Tara Gomes, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
  • Dr. Andras Kapus, scientist at the Keenan Research Centre
  • Dr. Cheryl Pritlove, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
  • Dr. Duminda Wijeysundera, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
  • Dr. Jennifer Watt, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
  • Dr. Yvonne Bombard, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute
Dr. Shiva Jayaraman

Dr. Shiva Jayaraman, a surgeon and researcher at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, has been awarded the Robert Mustard Mentorship Award. This award honours Dr. Jayaraman’s contributions to the training of Residents and Fellows of the University of Toronto Division of General Surgery.

Dr. Anish Kirpalani

Dr. Anish Kirpalani, investigator and radiologist at St. Michael’s, has been promoted to Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto. Dr. Kirpalani was awarded his promotion on the basis of Excellence in Creative Professional Activity (Professional Innovation and Creative Excellence). He has made significant contributions to the development of professional innovation and creative excellence, through supporting the founding of an MRI research centre at St. Michael’s, the development of new techniques for the investigation of renal disease and developing an MRI course.
