At Providence, we’ve introduced a new term to our staff — Competency from On-Going Relational Education (aka CORE). The program is the first of its kind to support clinical staff in continuing clinical education with a unique twist:

  • Clinical staff set one learning goal of their choice related to patient care.
  • Learning mentorship is provided.
  • There are no tests – only self-evaluation!

With CORE, staff learn at their own pace what, when and how they want to learn and with whom they would like to learn from. We match each CORE member with a clinician who can provide enhanced learning support for their self-identified goal.

CORE has become the new buzz word amongst clinical staff for a supportive learning and engaged teaching experience. So far, 17 clinicians are piloting the program (six are receiving interprofessional mentorship) and we are accepting new participant enrollment.

Here’s what are staff are saying about working with CORE:

“CORE was a great way to gain insight into a different profession and also see how the info can benefit myself and my department. From just one meeting, I’ve learned so much and I’m looking forward to implementing it in my day to day life. It has been an invaluable experience thus far and I can’t wait to see how it will evolve in the coming years.” – Sarah Sarwary, Clinical Resource/Coordinator and CORE Participant.

“This is a great way to foster leadership as participants and a leader. Also gives permission for learning to happen…– you don’t have to know it all.”- Anonymous, CORE Leader
