Care Experience Charter

Unity Health Toronto Launches First Care Experience Charter

At some point, everyone is a patient or family member*, navigating their way through the health care system. Unity Health Toronto has spent the past year alongside patients, residents, families, our community, staff and physicians creating a guide that outlines what’s valued when people come to us for care as well as principles that guide how we provide that care. The result is our Care Experience Charter – a road map to help create the best care experiences together with those who count on us every single day.

Background

Every hospital is required under the Excellent Care for All Act 2010 to have a patient declaration of values that outlines what patients and families expect from health care organizations. In 2018, Unity Health’s three sites along with the Houses started the process to harmonize our declarations into one set of values that would apply no matter which unit, department or site you visit. Two versions were created – one for the hospitals and one for the Houses.
