Health AI Academy

Registration is now open for the Fall 2025 Cohort of the Health AI Academy.
Registration will remain open until August 8. Participants who are selected for the first round of the program will recieve a confirmation email later this summer.
Please note that there are two distinct course streams as outlined below, and that spots are limited for both streams. We ask that you carefully read the application form for eligibility criteria and requirements.
Unity Health Toronto is a national leader in the use of AI and advanced analytics in health care.
The Health AI Academy is a national training initiative program created by Unity Health Toronto, KPMG and Signal 1 to train health professionals from across Canada on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics in health care. Funded by the DIGITAL Supercluster, the Academy aims to strengthen health system leadership and understanding of AI.

There are two novel components to The Health AI Academy:
Health AI Foundations: A virtual, interactive course taking place from September 17, 2025 to November 5, 2025 from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. EST, designed to equip over 200 healthcare professionals and leaders with a foundational understanding of AI in health care systems. This is open to senior executives, decisions makers and clinicians, including physicians, nurses and allied health professionals, as well as operational staff like IT specialists, data analysts, privacy and legal teams, and administrative personnel.
Health AI Fellowship: A one-week immersive, in-person program hosted at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, designed for an interdisciplinary group of 20 participants seeking deeper practical exposure. The fellowship is scheduled for Monday, November 17, 2025 to Friday, November 21, 2025.
Who is eligible to participate in The Health AI Academy?
The Health AI Academy is designed for three types of participants:
- Health leaders: Senior executives and decision-makers who would be responsible for strategic planning and AI integration across health organizations.
- Clinicians: Physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals who would interact with AI technologies in diagnostics, patient care and clinical decision-making.
- Operational staff: Information Technology (IT) specialists, data analysts, privacy and legal teams, and administrative staff who would be responsible for supporting AI implementation, data management, and system operations within health settings.
What are the dates and times for the Health AI Foundations online course and the in-person Health AI Fellowship?
The Health AI Foundations is scheduled on Wednesday’s from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. EST from September 17, 2025 to November 5, 2025.
The Health AI Academy Fellowship is scheduled 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2025 to Friday, November 21, 2025.
Will there be group work, or is this course completed independently?
Individual and group applications are welcome. For group applications, up to seven participants representing a mix of roles such as C-suite leaders, managers and diverse backgrounds including data, clinical, IT, etc. are encouraged. Groups will be able to collaboratively complete the course assignment, which has questions that benefit from a diversity of perspectives. Please note that for group applications, each team member must individually complete the online application form.
Is there a cost associated with registering for and participating in the program?
We are pleased to offer complimentary registration for the inaugural cohort of the Health AI Academy, thanks to the generous support of our partners. While there is no cost to participate, we invite you to consider making a donation to Unity Health Toronto in support of advancing health innovation, education, and care.
Unity Health Toronto Foundations
The Health AI Academy is available to individuals employed in the Canadian public healthcare sector who aspire to implement AI solutions within their institutions.
What materials and documents do I need for the program?
The Health AI Academy will provide all required reading and learning materials. Learners will only need a laptop or PC with a secure internet connection to access the course.
How will my participation in the online be graded?
Your participation in the online course will assessed through multiple indicators throughout the course. The primary assessment will be the creation of an AI and Data Transformation Roadmap, tailored to your institution. This can be completed collaboratively as a group, or individually. Additionally, there will be knowledge check quizzes at the end of every module and course attendance will be monitored.
What is the time commitment for the program?
Acknowledging that learning styles vary, we estimate that it will take approximately 3 hours per week to complete the online course. The in-person fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, ON will require approximately 8 hours each day over the course of 5 days to complete.
Can I sign up for both the Health AI Foundations program and the Health AI Fellowship program, or can I only choose one? Are there separate registration programs for each?
The Health AI Fellowship program is intended for an interdisciplinary group of 20 participants seeking deeper practical exposure following the Health AI Foundations program. As you complete the application form, you will see instructions that you can follow to apply for the Health AI Fellowship program based on specific criteria.
