Graduate studies award from the University of Toronto
Dr. Nikhil Shah, a family physician at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, received a graduate studies award from the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine. This award recognizes excellence in academic scholarship, teaching, and professional development for faculty, learners, and researchers involved in the department’s graduate programs.
Blood inventory data sharing with Canadian Blood Services
Unity Health Toronto is the first hospital in Ontario to launch automated, unit-level blood inventory data sharing with Canadian Blood Services. Unity Health’s Laboratory Medicine and Digital teams are leveraging existing technology to share daily inventory data to eliminate manual uploading and create better visibility across the health care system.

Order of Canada
Congratulations to Dr. Lee Errett on being invested this week as a Member into the Order of Canada. Dr. Errett, a renowned cardiac surgeon at St. Michael’s Hospital for more than 30 years, is recognized as a leader in cardiac surgery, research, and education. As founding president of the Bethune Medical Development Association, he also volunteers his time and expertise to providing care in underserved areas worldwide.

Dr. Joan Cheng, Chief of the Emergency Department at St. Joseph’s, received the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine Helen Batty Award of Sustained Excellence in Faculty Development.

University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine Social Responsibility Award in Postgraduate Medical Education
Dr. Gaibrie Stephen, Emergency Department Equity Lead at St. Joseph’s, received the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine Social Responsibility Award in Postgraduate Medical Education.
Pediatrician of the Season Winter 2025-26, Ontario Medical Association
Dr. Sharon Naymark, a pediatrician at St. Joseph’s, was named the Pediatrician of the Season Winter 2025-26 by the Pediatrics Section, Ontario Medical Association. This award celebrates outstanding pediatricians in Ontario who go above and beyond in their dedication to children, families and communities.
