Every month, staff, researchers, physicians, learners and teams across Unity Health Toronto celebrate important honours, achievements and awards. Congratulations to all who’ve been recognized in November!

Five researchers at Unity Health have been listed in the 2025 Highly Cited Researchers awards from Clarivate. The list identifies and celebrates individuals who have authored multiple highly cited papers, demonstrating significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research. Congratulations to Drs. Laurent Brochard, Lawrence Leiter, John Marshall, Arthur Slutsky, and Sharon Straus for this exceptional achievement.

The International Forum for Acute Care Trialists (InFACT), a global collaboration of acute care clinicians and researchers led by Dr. John Marshall, chair of InFACT and intensivist at St. Michael’s, organized a Building Global Acute Care Research Capacity event in Kigali, Rwanda in October. The event brought together 125 researchers from around the world to explore ways to expand acute care research capacity in low and middle income countries and to foster partnerships with established trials groups and networks. The event was a huge success, with 30 countries represented.

The Acute Care of Elderly Unity (ACE) at St. Michael’s has been recognized by the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto for joining Ontario’s Delirium Flag campaign to raise awareness about preventing, recognizing, and managing delirium. ACE consists of a Geriatrician, Nurse Practitioner, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, and a Care & Transitions Facilitator dedicated to promoting various delirium prevention strategies to support patients’ recovery and maintain independence.

Lorna Bain, Manager of Collaborative Practice and Education at Providence, received the Occupational Therapy Alumni Achievement award in the Legacy Category from University of Toronto’s Occupational Therapy (OT) Alumni Council. This award recognizes her lifetime accomplishments across all areas of Practice, Education and Service.

Dr. Tara Gomes, scientist at St. Michael’s, has been awarded with the 2025 Peggy Leatt Knowledge & Impact Award. This award recognizes a healthcare scholar for achievements in developing transformative evidence on ways to improve healthcare and health systems.

Dr. Veronique Miron, John David Eaton Chair in Multiple Sclerosis Research, Barlo MS Centre, Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science, received the Mid-Career Award in Fundamental Science from the International Society for Neuroimmunology. This award recognizes scientific excellence, leadership, and mentorship shaping the future of the field of Neuroimmunology.
