Unity Health Toronto’s June Honour Roll

Every month, staff, researchers, physicians, learners and teams across Unity Health Toronto celebrate important honours, achievements and awards. Congratulations to all who’ve been recognized in June!
Dr. Korryn Bodner, former research associate at the MAP Centre for Urban Solutions at St. Michael’s, received a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Epidemiology and Disease Modelling at the University of Guelph.

Dr. Jenny Yu Qing Huang, geriatrician clinical associate at St. Michael’s and a PhD student at the University of Toronto, received the Edmund V. Cowdry Award from the Canadian Geriatrics Society for her presentation titled, “Dementia Rate and Care Needs in Older Adults with Traumatic Brain Injury and Intersections with Social Determinants of Health: A Population-based Cohort Study.”

Dr. Hagar Labouta, scientist at St. Michael’s, is the 2025 early-career recipient of the Hind Al-Abadleh Nano Ontario Awards for her exceptional early-career achievements in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Ontario.
Labouta is also the recipient of the Controlled Release Society (CRS) 2025 Rising Women in Science Award. This award recognizes a woman scientist with less than 10 years of post-PhD experience who has showcased scientific excellence, leadership, and dedication to women in their communities.

Dr. Natasha Lane, geriatric medicine resident at St. Michael’s, received the Dr. Jack & Dr. Asa Award from the Canadian Geriatrics Society for her presentation titled, “Managing Sexual Expressions of Potential Risk in Adults with Major Neurocognitive Disorders: A Systematic Review of Pharmacologic and Non-Pharmacologic Strategies.”

Maria Panzera-Rugg, registered nurse in the Outpatient Palliative Care and Symptom Improvement (PaCSI) clinic at St. Joseph’s, has been awarded with the Dorothy Ley Award of Excellence in Hospice Palliative Care. This award was in recognition of her leadership, advocacy, and holistic approaches to high-quality hospice palliative care.

Dr. Eric Wong, geriatrician clinical associate at St. Michael’s, received recognition for his paper titled, “Cost-Effectiveness of the Geriatrician-Led Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment in Different Healthcare Settings: An Economic Evaluation.” This paper was named in the top 10 most important papers published this year. It was also discussed as a notable topic at the American Geriatrics Society Annual Meeting.
