March’s Honour Roll at Unity Health

Every month, staff, researchers, physicians, learners and teams across Unity Health Toronto celebrate important honours, achievements and awards. Congratulations to those who have been recognized this month!

Congratulations to Dr. Yvonne Bombard, a scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, who received funding from the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research for a project on equity in cancer genomics.

Dr. Sunit Das, a surgical oncologist and scientist at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science, was appointed to the Keenan Chair in Surgery by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Dr. Ripudaman Minhas, a pediatrician and scientist at St. Michael’s, whose team received more than $1.1-million in funding to support Our Kids Health, a project that will support the mental health and well-being of families in eight large racial and cultural-linguistic groups in Canada.

Dr. Rajeev Muni, an ophthalmologist and researcher at St. Michael’s, received the 2023 Paul Kayser RRF Global Award from the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Dr. Fahad Razak, a General Internal Medicine physician and scientist at St. Michael’s, who was awarded a President’s Impact Award from the University of Toronto for his leadership of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table.

Dr. Saadia Sediqzadah, a psychiatrist at St. Michael’s, was named to The Peak’s 2023 Class of Emerging Leaders. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Dr. Duminda Wijeysundera, a physician and scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital and Interim Medical Director of the Applied Health Research Centre, who was elected to the International Anesthesia Research Society Board of Trustees.

Congratulations to Unity Health teams recognized this month:
- Toronto’s Drug Checking Pilot Program, co-led by St. Michael’s, received the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists Award for Innovation in Laboratory Medicine for 2023.
- Unity Health researchers are collaborating on a pan-Canadian Post COVID-19 Condition Research Network called Long COVID Web, which received $20-million in funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research.
- Unity Health is a major partner of a new national hub focused on enhancing Canada’s ability to respond to pandemics – the Canadian Hub for Health Intelligence and Innovation in Infectious Diseases – which received $2-million in funding from the Canada Biomedical Research Fund.
