Unity Health Toronto has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers in recognition of its exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.

Unity Health is among the top employers in the region according to criteria set by MediaCorp: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

As part of the distinction, Unity Health was featured in The Globe and Mail for its commitment to helping staff to grow in their careers, plus its wide range of programming to support the safety, wellness and work-life balance of employees. This is the second straight year that Unity Health has earned the designation.

“Unity Health’s recognition as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers is a testament to our values in action,” said Dr. Tim Rutledge, Unity Health’s President and CEO. “Each day, our remarkable people bring our values to life as we work together to create the best care experiences for patients.”

Manson Locke, Vice President, People & Chief Human Resources Officer at Unity Health Toronto, said the organization’s 130-year legacy of caring for those experiencing disadvantage is reflected in its human resources programs.

“This is a place that has its values in front to such an extreme level. And that legacy of caring for people who are the most marginalized in our society is the same kind of care and focus that we turn inside on our staff,” said Locke.

Ranked as a top Canadian hospital network and a national leader in health research, Unity Health is a place of opportunity. Working at Unity Health means being at the forefront of health care in Canada’s largest city alongside 14,000 leading experts in clinical care, research, education and technology. There are several advantages to being part of the Unity Health team including:

  • Competitive compensation, excellent health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, and a leading defined-benefit pension plan
  • Access to education funds to support lifelong learning and career development for all full- and part-time employees
  • Flexible and remote work arrangements and in-person, virtual and self-guided wellness programs
  • A commitment to transformational improvements in equity, systemic racism and social accountability, with an initial focus on anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism

Joel Persaud started at Unity Health as a nursing student in 2015, and has since completed a highly regarded, three month-long course to become accredited in critical care nursing. The course was fully sponsored by Unity Health, and he spoke about the many opportunities for development and progression.

“When they take you in, they really invest in you and suggest training for different positions,” said Persaud.

“It definitely keeps me and a lot of my colleagues going, knowing that we’re encouraged to go on and do bigger things.”
