Every month, researchers across Unity Health Toronto celebrate important honours, achievements and awards. Congratulations to our researchers who have been recognized this month!

Six projects from Unity Health Toronto have been funded in the ‘Emerging COVID-19 Research Gaps and Priorities Funding Opportunities by CIHR. The leads of the six projects are:

  • Dr. Andrew Baker, scientist at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science
  • Dr. Christine (Tina) Fahim, scientist at the Knowledge Translation Program
  • Dr. Stephen Hwang, scientist at MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions
  • Dr. Jonathon Maguire, scientist at MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions
  • Dr. John Marshall, scientist at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science
  • Dr. Anne Stephenson, scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute

Dr. Yvonne Bombard, a scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, has been awarded a $2-million Team Grant in Personalized Health from CIHR. Her project, The Genetics Navigator: A novel digital platform for delivering personalized genetic services, will develop a patient-centred eHealth platform to deliver genetic sequencing services and then evaluate its effectiveness compared to usual care. Genomic sequencing is a test that scans a person’s genetic code to identify changes that may be disease-causing. While it is increasingly used for patient care as it improves diagnosis and health outcomes, genetic sequencing is a complex and costly health service. Dr. Bombard’s platform will include a conversational chatbot and innovative strategies for pre-and post-test genetic counselling and result reporting. Learn more about the project here and congratulations to Dr. Bombard and her team.
