Unity Health is pleased to announce that following a comprehensive internal and external search, Allison Needham is the inaugural Director of Anti-Racism, Equity and Social Accountability (ARESA), effective April 26. With support from across the organization, Allison will oversee the development, implementation and measurement of Unity Health’s anti-racism, equity and social accountability strategy, as well as oversight of our Council on Anti-Racism, Equity and Social Accountability, which she currently co-chairs. She was most recently the Manager of Surgical Strategic Operations and Quality at our St. Joseph’s site.

The Director of ARESA is a new role at Unity Health and was established to promote change across the organization that will evolve our culture in a manner that will make Unity Health Toronto a more equitable and anti-oppressive space for our staff, learners and patients. Allison has already distinguished herself as an effective catalyst for change in advancing this strategic direction at Unity Health and is poised to accelerate that momentum in assuming this role. We look forward to working with Allison on advancing this important work across our organization.
