Dr. Jiwon Oh

We are pleased to announce Dr. Jiwon Oh is the new director of the BARLO MS Centre, where she will continue to drive our incredible momentum of providing world-class specialty care for patients with Multiple Sclerosis.

Dr. Oh joined St. Michael’s in 2014 and is a world-renowned researcher with a national and international reputation for her work within MS, an autoimmune disease of the neurological system that impacts nearly 100,000 Canadians – one of the highest prevalence rates in the world. She has established the MRI research program at St. Michael’s which is one of the few centers in the world evaluating multiple advanced imaging techniques to look at the impact of MS on spinal cord tissue in the hopes of finding biomarkers that will help clinicians monitor and more accurately predict how MS will progress in individual patients. She also leads the innovative Canadian Prospective Cohort Study to Understand Progression in MS, seeking detailed understanding of how progression in MS begins and why it takes place more rapidly in some people than others.

Dr. Oh has led the MS clinic and its team since becoming its interim director in May, challenging this life-impacting disease through research and academic excellence while providing stellar person-centred care.

Our world-class MS research and care and the construction of our new BARLO MS Centre continues unabated. Unity Health Toronto’s leadership and the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation’s lead donors congratulate Dr. Oh as she steps into this important role.
