The Centre for Faculty Development, a partnership between St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto, has been named winner of the 2017 ASPIRE Award for Excellence in Faculty Development from the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). The award was presented at the AMEE annual conference in Helsinki, Finland on Aug. 28 and was only the third time it has been awarded to a faculty development program.

The Centre for Faculty Development at St. Michael’s was highlighted for a number of strengths, a few of which include:

  • A broad range and large number of activities, targeted at participants at all stages of their careers from advanced to newcomers, delivered in a variety of flexible and site-specific formats.
  • Engagement of different hospital sites and departments, with distributed leadership of faculty development activities.
  • Contributions to educational scholarship, with national and international achievement.

ASPIRE is a program that recognizes international excellence in education in a medical, dental or veterinary school in a number of domains through an extensive peer review process. The Excellence in Faculty Development award recognizes demonstrated achievements related to: goals and design of the program; scope of offerings; resources and expertise; evaluation; and innovation and scholarship.
