The 30th annual St. Michael’s Urban Angel Golf Classic presented by Middlefield Group has raised more than $1 million for the eleventh year in a row.

Held at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham on July 19, the tournament has grown to become one of the biggest one-day charity golf tournaments in Canada.

PGA Tour Canada was a supporter again this year. Four professional golfers spent the day on the course, offering tips and showcasing their talent on various holes.

Two-hundred eighty-eight golfers participated in this year’s tournament, which was emceed by Crystal Goomansingh, a Global News anchor and reporter, and included on-course tasting stations and gave golfers the chance to take part in closest to the pin, closest to the rope and longest drive competitions.

The St. Michael’s Foundation Urban Angel Golf Classic is one of the longest running hospital fundraisers. This year’s tournament was co-chaired by longtime St. Michael’s Foundation board members John Manning and Michael Thompson.

“We’re so proud to be celebrating our 30th annual Urban Angel Golf Classic in the same year we are celebrating the 125th birthday of St. Michael’s Hospital,” said Alayne Metrick, president of the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation. “For the eleventh year in a row, we have netted one million dollars from this event, making it the most successful one-day charitable golf tournament in Canada. We could not have done it without the tremendous support of our volunteers and sponsors.”

The first Urban Angel Golf Classic was organized by St. Michael’s Engineering Department in 1987; it raised $17,000. Over the years, the event has matured thanks to the continued commitment of volunteers and donors.
