Why St. Joe’s is choosing to merge with two Toronto hospitals
May 09, 2017

A voluntary merger between Joseph’s Health Centre, Providence Healthcare, and St. Michael’s Hospital is pending approval from the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).
All three boards of the hospitals in Parkdale, Scarborough and downtown Toronto, respectively, submitted a joint integration proposal last month, which explains how each community they serve has a growing population with complex medical and social needs and how their infrastructure is aging.
“Standing still and standing alone is no longer a viable option. It is for this reason the three organizations are proposing the creation of a health network with a single governance and management model that will benefit the people they care for …” states the proposal.
