Dr. Ryan Brydges has been appointed to the Professorship in Technology-Enabled Education, effective April 3. The professorship is jointly held between St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto and is for a five-year term. Dr. Brydges will also take on the role of research director at the Allan Waters Family Simulation Centre at St. Michael’s.

Dr. Brydges’ vision for the Professorship in Technology-Enabled Education will be realized through collaborative research, thoughtful innovation, and commitment to quality improvement. He believes now is the time for aligning the education and patient safety missions in our health care institutions.

“We are incredibly excited that Ryan will be joining us and lending his knowledge and expertise. As an education scientist, Ryan has been researching health professions education, with a focus in health-care simulation. He is a leading scientist and educator who can bring together our local experts and lead our technology-based programs with exemplary scholarship and best practices,” said Bev Bulmer, vice-president of Education, St. Michael’s Hospital.

The Professorship in Technology-Enabled Education is made possible by long-time friends of
St. Michael’s, David and Anne Patterson, who have supported several hospital priorities.

Dr. Brydges will continue with his appointments as an assistant professor and education scientist in the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Wilson Centre, University Health Network.
