Dr. Ziad Butty is a highly respected and skilled physician in Ophthalmology and is on staff at St Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto. His practice consists of medical and surgical Glaucoma and Cataract surgery.
Dr. Ziad Butty is a lecturer at the University of Toronto, Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences (DOVS). He completed a Glaucoma Clinical Fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Toronto and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2016. He previously completed two university diplomas in Glaucoma and Ocular Infections and Inflammations at the Xavier Bichat and Pitie-Salpetriere Universities, Paris, France. Dr. Butty completed his MD degree in 2005 from the University of Al-Mustansiriyah, Baghdad, Iraq.
Dr. Butty’s practice focuses on medical and surgical Glaucoma and Cataract surgery. He is currently accepting new referrals with cataracts and surgical glaucoma.
Dr. Ziad Butty has a strong interest and actively participates in medical students and resident clinical and surgical teaching at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Ziad Butty is passionate about serving First Nations and under-serviced communities in Northern Ontario and devotes time every year to the CNIB Eye Van. He also started the Syrian refugee clinic at the Kensington Eye Institute in Toronto and has participated in international ophthalmology missions including the Urban Angels Medical Mission to the Philippines.
Dr. Ziad Butty is an active member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), the Canadian Glaucoma Society (CGS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).
His research interests are in the area of glaucoma screening, early glaucoma detection, optic nerve imaging, visual fields and new glaucoma surgical devices. Dr. Butty was a Consultation Specialist for Glaucoma section for Statistics Canada: Vision component (Visual fields section) for the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). Dr. Butty had a big role in the The Toronto epidemiology glaucoma survey.
Dr. Ziad Butty speaks English, French and Arabic fluently. In his free time, He enjoys art, sports, tennis, traveling and spending quality time with his partner, family and friends.
