Healthcare Worker Recruitment Scams

Unity Health Toronto is aware of fraudulent communications from individuals falsely claiming to represent our organization or recruitment team. Please see below for tips on how to protect yourself and what to do if you think you may be the recipient of a false recruitment email.

Protect Yourself

  • Unity Health Toronto never charges fees at any stage of the recruitment or hiring process.
  • We do not request banking information, passport details, or payment information before a formal offer of employment.
  • All official job opportunities are posted on the Unity Health Toronto Careers website.
  • Recruitment communications are sent only from official Unity Health Toronto email accounts. Always check the sender’s email address carefully.
  • Any request for payment, gift cards, immigration fees, or personal financial information in exchange for a job opportunity should be considered fraudulent.
  • Do not click on suspicious links, open unexpected attachments, or download files from recruitment communications that you do not trust.
  • Unity Health Toronto recruiters will never ask for your password, verification code, multifactor authentication approval, gift card, cryptocurrency payment, or installation of remote-access software, mobile apps, or browser extensions.

Verify Before You Respond

Before sharing personal information or responding to a job offer:

  • Confirm that the position is posted on the Unity Health Toronto Careers website.
  • Verify that the sender is using an official Unity Health Toronto email address.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited job offers, urgent requests, or offers that seem too good to be true.
  • Do not rely on links or contact information provided in a suspicious message to verify the communication. Instead, use the official Unity Health Toronto Careers website to find contact information and verify the opportunity.
  • Navigate independently to the official Unity Health Toronto Careers website rather than using contact details, links, or QR codes provided in a suspicious message.
  • Be cautious of interviews or job offers conducted through personal email accounts, social media, messaging apps, or other unofficial channels.
  • If you are unsure whether a communication is legitimate, contact the Talent Acquisition team through an official Unity Health Toronto contact.

Report a Suspicious Communicatoin

If you receive a suspicious job-related email, text message, phone call, or job offer:

  • Do not send money or share personal or financial information.
  • Do not click on links or open attachments if you are unsure of the sender.
  • Stop communicating with the sender.
  • Keep the original message and preserve screenshots, sender details, phone numbers, links, QR codes, attachments, and payment instructions as evidence.
  • Report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
  • Contact the Unity Health Toronto Talent Acquisition team at recruitment@unityhealth.to.

When reporting a suspicious communication to Unity Health Toronto, please include the original message and, where possible, the sender’s email address, phone number, links, and any attachments. This information can help with investigation.

If you have already shared sensitive information, immediately change affected passwords, enable multifactor authentication where available, contact your financial institution if financial information was exposed, and report the incident through official channels.

When in doubt, stop and verify before responding.
