Plastic Surgery
Derived from the ancient Greek word Plastikos (which means to ‘grow’, ‘mold” and/or ‘shape’), Plastic Surgery is a surgical specialty that treats patients to correct form and function.
The Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre is an integral part of the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
Combined with clinical expertise across a wide gamut of Plastic Surgery and through its affiliation with the University of Toronto, St. Joseph’s has a clearly stated vision to be ‘the best community-based teaching hospital in Canada’ and its Plastic Surgery faculty have been on the forefront of this mission statement; having won numerous St. Joseph’s, Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, and University of Toronto medical student and resident teaching awards.
The clinical expertise offered at St. Joseph’s includes, but is not limited to, the following domains:
- “General” plastic surgery
- Pediatric plastic surgery
- Plastic surgery of the breast – including reconstructive breast surgery (alloplastic and autologous (including free tissue transfer))
- Gynecomastia surgery
- Hand trauma
- Hand, wrist and peripheral nerve surgery
- Benign and malignant diseases of the skin
- Ear reconstruction (with national leaders in this domain)

Please submit referrals directly to individual offices or through St. Joseph’s Ambulatory Care Clinic. Our nursing team will triage them to the appropriate clinic to ensure each patient receives the specialized care they need.

In general, referrals for non-urgent procedures (e.g., cysts and lipomas) and breast surgery consultations should be sent directly to the individual physician’s office. Referrals for urgent hand trauma (e.g., fractures, dislocations and tendon/nerve lacerations) should be sent to St. Joseph’s Ambulatory Care Clinic.
