Emerging Leader Award presented by Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto
Dr. Daniel Beriault, Head of Biochemistry at Unity Health Toronto, received the Emerging Leader Award as part of the 2026 Dean’s Alumni Awards from the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. This is in recognition of his leadership in laboratory medicine, public health and evidence-based practice.
PSI Foundation New Investigator Grant for a new study in prehospital care
Dr. Johannes Von Vopelius Feldt, staff physician and trauma team leader at St. Michael’s Hospital, received a 3-year PSI Foundation New Investigator Grant for a study he is co-authoring called, “When Every Minute Matters: Improving Prehospital Care for Patients with Severe Injuries.” This grant will support his work in a prehospital high-acuity response unit with the potential to improve care for severely injured patients.
Later Career Academic Contribution Award presented by Division of Infectious Diseases, University of Toronto
Dr. Kevin Gough, staff physician at St. Michael’s Hospital, received the Later Career Academic Contribution Award from the Division of Infectious Diseases at University of Toronto, recognizing his outstanding scholarly achievements, sustained academic leadership and contributions to the field of infectious diseases.
McVie Veronesi Award presented by American Society of Clinical Oncology
Dr. Nazik Hammad, oncologist at St. Michael’s Hospital, was the 2026 recipient of the McVie Veronesi Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to cancer control while working in low to middle-income countries. The committee was inspired by Dr. Hammad’s work supporting displaced communities in East Africa and her longstanding efforts to strengthen oncology capacity across Africa.
Peters-Boyd Academy Foundations Faculty Teaching Award
Dr. Erin Norris, rheumatologist at St. Michael’s Hospital, received the 2025–2026 Peters-Boyd Academy Foundations Faculty Teaching Award. This award, nominated by students, recognizes faculty members who have made an exceptional impact on medical education and clinical training through their dedication, mentorship, and teaching excellence.
Speech-Language Pathologist of the Year Award presented by Speech-Language & Audiology Canada
Teresa Valenzano-Hacker, Manager of Clinical Practice Improvement & Scholarship at Unity Health Toronto, received the Speech-Language Pathologist of the Year Award from Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC), recognizing her leadership, advocacy and research in the field.
