Unity Health Toronto’s AI team has won the 2024 Solventum Health Care Innovation Team Award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Unity Health is the only health care organization in Canada to have launched more than 50 artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics tools into clinical practice and is at the forefront of applied health AI globally.

As the only hospital-based, applied AI team in the country, the Data Science and Advanced Analytics team clinched the award by demonstrating its leadership in harnessing the power of data, AI and analytics to revolutionize health care.

“We are honoured to receive the Solventum Health Care Innovation Team Award,” says Dr. Muhammad Mamdani, VP of Data Science and Advanced Analytics, Unity Health Toronto. “The award recognizes the pioneering work the AI team at Unity Health Toronto – and the broader hospital network – does to deliver more efficient, effective and personalized care for patients.”

Much of the team’s success in launching AI technologies into clinical care is attributed to its unique co-creation model. Frontline clinicians and decision-makers are the key drivers behind every applied AI project. Their understanding of the day-to-day problems in their area enables the AI team’s leading data scientists to build AI solutions that not only address important issues but are also user-friendly.

Unity Health is already seeing these AI solutions save lives and improve care for our patients. Learn more about some of these tools with the interactive graphic on the AI at Unity Health web page.

The Solventum Health Care Innovation Team Award is focused on disruptive innovation, highlighting cutting-edge system transformation and outcomes, diverse populations and the sustainability of the change. For more information about the award, visit the Canadian College of Health Leaders website.
