Dr. Austin completed his MD degree at the University of Toronto, where his commitment to academic excellence was recognized with multiple awards.
He completed his residency at the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto. Following residency, he pursued a clinical fellowship in hand surgery at The Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, a renowned Orthopaedic Hand Surgery practice in Philadelphia.
In tandem with his clinical pursuits, Dr. Austin has been an active proponent of education and advocacy in Plastic Surgery. Since 2020, Dr. Austin has served as the Chair of the Section on Plastic Surgery at the Ontario Medical Association, representing plastic surgeons across the province at the OMA. Dr. Austin has also made significant contributions to resident education at the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, leading the Journal Club program and spearheading the development of a Transition to Practice teaching curriculum for plastic surgery trainees.
A productive researcher, Dr. Austin has contributed to plastic and aesthetic surgery literature with numerous textbook chapters and scientific articles. As a peer-review editor, Dr. Austin has held several prominent including as section lead for the Next Generation Editors at the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and as a Contributing Editor (Aesthetic Breast Surgery) for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum. Beyond his editorial board work, Dr. Austin actively participates in various committees with (and is a member of) The Aesthetic Society, the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Austin’s comprehensive practice encompasses various facets of “general” plastic surgery, with a particular focus on plastic surgery of the hand and aesthetic plastic surgery.
