Toronto, ON, M6C1B1
Dr. Edward Alexander Sykes is a Canadian board‑certified otolaryngologist with dual training in Biomedical Engineering and medicine. He maintains a general otolaryngology practice treating adult and pediatric patients, with a specific surgical clinical interests in sinus disease, sleep disorders, otologic conditions, and endocrine (neck) surgery. His academic focus is translational medicine: developing and advancing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools from bench to bedside to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Sykes combines clinical surgical practice with an active research program aimed at translating engineering innovations into clinically useful diagnostics and therapeutics. His goals include advancing minimally invasive surgical tools, improving targeted drug and device delivery for head and neck indications, and mentoring trainees at the interface of engineering and clinical care. He has authored multiple peer‑reviewed publications on nanoparticle delivery, tumor targeting, and microphysiological platforms that bridge Engineering and Medicine. Notable topics in his publication record include: nanoparticle size and tumor targeting efficiency; tumor‑on‑a‑chip models to study nanoparticle transport; and work contributing to mechanistic understanding of nanoparticle clearance and tissue delivery.
