
Kyle Wanzel
Dr. Wanzel is the St. Joseph’s Chief/Division Head of Plastic Surgery and has been faculty at St. Joseph’s for 20 years.
He attended medical school at the University of Toronto and graduated with a medical degree in 1998, whereby he was the recipient of several awards and scholarships including the prized Silver Medal for graduating with the second highest cumulative grade point average amongst 196 medical school graduates.
Dr. Wanzel then completed a seven-year residency in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto, which included two years in the prestigious Surgeon Scientist Program while completing a Master of Education degree. After certification as a plastic surgeon, he completed additional sub-specialty fellowship training in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, here at the University of Toronto.
He is the current University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Program Director (Toronto’s Plastic Surgery training program is the largest such program in Canada and one of the largest and most respected in North America).
Dr. Wanzel has won numerous teaching awards (at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Unity Heath Toronto, from the University of Toronto Division of Plastic Surgery, and from the University of Toronto Department of Surgery as well).
He has also been the Chair of the Royal College Written Exam Committee and has been a Royal College Plastic Surgery examiner for 9 years. And, he currently sits on the Royal College Plastic Surgery Specialty Committee (a Canadian national position that he has held since 2015).
For more than 10 years, Dr. Wanzel was also Co-Chairman of the well-respected annual Toronto Breast Symposium (the largest medical conference in Canada dedicated to aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery).
Dr. Wanzel is a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, and is very proud to be one of the few Canadian members (there are only 3) of the prestigious ‘invite only’ society called the Royal and Ancient Society of American Plastic Surgeons (RASAPS).
His practice encompasses most aspects of “General” Plastic Surgery – but most commonly involves plastic surgery of the breast, hand, and benign and malignant diseases of the skin.
