
Larissa Derzko-Dzulynsky
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is Chief/Division Head of Ophthalmology at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre and has been faculty at St. Joseph’s Health Centre since 2000. She completed her medical degree in 1993 and graduated from the Ophthalmology Residency Program at the University of Toronto in 1998. She became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Canada) in 1998. She subsequently completed fellowship training in uveitis at McGill University and post-fellowship training in retina and uveitis at University of Toronto, Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences (DOVS). She is on faculty at St. Michael’s Hospital – Unity Health Toronto and Kensington Eye Institute (KEI).
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto. She held the position of Chief of Uveitis at the University of Toronto DOVS from 2012 – 2023. She is actively involved in resident surgical teaching at KEI and resident and medical student clinical teaching at Unity Health Toronto. She has won teaching awards at St. Michael’s Hospital – Unity Health Toronto, including the Dr. Michael Shea Commitment to Ophthalmology Education Award in 2017.
Her research interests are in the area of ocular inflammatory and infectious diseases. She has recently published papers on cataract surgery in uveitis, efficacy and safety of adalimumab and infliximab for non-infectious uveitis, cytomegalovirus related anterior uveitis in Toronto, and outcomes in PIC-related choroidal neovascularization. Current research includes OCT features in intermediate, posterior & panuveitis, and immune profiling in birdshot chorioretinopathy.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky has chaired uveitis sections for a number of national and international meetings, including the Canadian Ophthalmology Society Annual Meeting and the International Ocular Inflammation Society biannual meeting. She was President of the Canadian Uveitis Society from 2010 – 2013, during which she increased awareness of uveitis at the provincial and federal government levels. She has also been the Canadian representative at the International Ocular Inflammation Society since 2013.
She is currently a member of the Canadian Ophthalmology Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Canadian Uveitis Society, American Uveitis Society, International Ocular Inflammation Society and the International Uveitis Study Group.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky’s practice includes comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery and uveitis.
