Rapid access DFU referral service for community chiropodist/podiatrist
For community chiropodists and podiatrists seeking consultation for patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
About the service
St. Michael’s Hospital is launching a Rapid Access Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) Referral Service to support timely specialist assessment for patients at risk of wound complications.
Access to Foot Ulcer Clinic
When needed, patients may be referred (in collaboration with the referring provider) to our OHIP-covered Foot Ulcer Clinic for advanced wound care, hospital-based investigations and/or specialist referral.
Why refer early?
Diabetic foot ulcers can progress quickly. Delays in care may lead to infection, Emergency Department visits, and complex limb salvage interventions. Early specialist assessment can:
✔ Improve patient outcomes
✔ Reduce avoidable ED visits
✔ Support coordinated, integrated care
