May 22 – Resuming surgeries, procedures and ambulatory care services

On May 19, the Ontario government kicked off the first stage of reopening the province. Although this stage includes some health services, there are still a number of criteria hospitals must meet before we can resume scheduled surgeries as per the province’s framework to assess hospital readiness, called A Measured Approach to Planning for Surgeries and Procedures During the COVID-19 Pandemic. These criteria were developed to ensure our patients’ safety during this pandemic.

When can you have your scheduled surgery or procedure?

Please know that we are working to get our services back up and running, including scheduled surgeries, procedures and our ambulatory care services. We are working closely with the province and other hospitals in the city to start elective surgeries again while maintaining the ability to support additional patients with COVID-19 in the event we see an increase of the virus in the community.

We recognize that patients have been waiting for their surgery or procedure and we apologize for the delay – we are working to get patients back in for these important procedures as quickly as possible with everyone’s safety in mind.

Your health-care team will be in touch with you when we are ready to start booking again. We will also continue to share information on our website. Thank you for your patience and support during this time.
